The Course

The 14th hole, A Par 3

The course was expanded to 18 holes which opened in 2000, in the form it exists today. It has retained the character of the original design, through the expert design of Gary Panks, and is considered as one of the top courses in Northern Arizona.

Teeing off from the historic clubhouse, one is soon aware of the subtle character of the course. As the course's narrow fairways wind their way through tall stands of Ponderosa Pines, it soon makes one realize that straight is better than long.

Also being located at 7000 feet above sea level, takes many golfers a few holes to adjust to the extra distance their ball is flying.

The 6th Hole

The 3rd Hole

Looking down at the 18th hole, with Bill Williams Mountain as a backdrop.

Standing on the first tee box, it looks wide open until one's eye is drawn to the tight Out of Bounds on the left. This makes the natural shot down the right side, but then one has to avoid the lake! The second hole - a shoot but tight par-4 - is guarded by a large bunker on the front left corner of the green - should you try and drive the green, - or lay up?

Three of the par-3 holes (#3, 12 and 14) all require you to shoot over water and the greens are guarded by large bunkers.

Hole #4 is a particularly tough hole at 455 yards uphill, while #7 is one of the few holes without a bunker, but at 416 yards into the prevailing wind, the narrow green is always a challenge to hit.

Looking back down the 17th

The first three par-5s are reachable in two for the longer hitters, but the 17th at 565 yards uphill is rarely reached in two.

Then the finishing hole is a 212 yard downhill Par-3 into the prevailing wind - you can be hitting anything from 7 iron to driver, but with a drop to the green of around 100 foot is it the right club?

The Bent Grass greens are the normal Gary Panks design. While they are often well guarded, they look fairly flat, but Gary has built in subtle breaks, making them hard to read.

Around the clubhouse you will find a full size driving range, putting green, chipping and bunker practice area.

THE COURSE IS A SOFT SPIKE FACILITY.
